About

Although born in Cornwall, Debra has made Devon her home where she has lived since her family moved there when she was a child.  Art and design has always been a part of her life, studying Art A-Level at school and then following on at college with Graphic Design.

However, her career took a completely different turn as for almost thirty years she worked in Local Government, but continuing her art practice in her spare time.
She then decided to take a new direction, following her love for creating, by running art sessions in care homes with the residents.  Passing on her skills, she encouraged them to create some amazing pieces of artwork to brighten up their rooms and the home.

Due to the Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020, Debra was unable to continue with her sessions so concentrated on her own artworks.  In August 2021 her first
children’s book ‘The animal says…’ was published.  Ten colourful animals with fun facts about each one shout from the pages with their ‘Ribbit!’, ‘Roar!’ and ‘Wheek!’

Debra works with mixed media, producing colourful textured designs.  She particularly loves working with collage, using old papers, books and materials to
give them a new purpose.

She is married with two grown up children and shares her home with her husband and Sprocker pup Shelby, who has been illustrated in her book as part of her dedication.
